Transparent profit formula

Net profit = order revenue − estimated Etsy fees − product/material cost − shipping/fulfilment cost − other business costs. Profit margin = net profit ÷ order revenue × 100. Fee percentages are applied to the order revenue entered in this planning model; verify the exact fee base for your seller location and order.

Free Etsy Fee & Profit Calculator for Sellers

The SonoCalculator Etsy Fee & Profit Calculator helps Etsy sellers estimate how much an order may actually earn after marketplace fees and business costs. It combines order revenue, Etsy transaction fees, payment processing, listing or renewal fees, optional Offsite Ads, optional regulatory operating fees, product costs, fulfilment and other order expenses into one transparent profit estimate.

Etsy selling costs are not identical for every seller. Etsy's transaction fee is a core marketplace fee, while Etsy Payments processing rates vary by the location of the seller's bank account. Some sellers may also face regulatory operating fees, Offsite Ads fees, currency conversion, deposit fees, VAT on seller fees, advertising costs or other charges. For that reason, this calculator keeps variable fees editable rather than silently assuming one country's rate.

How to Use the Etsy Fee & Profit Calculator

  1. Choose a currency. This controls the display symbol only; use fee amounts and costs in the same currency.
  2. Enter the item price. Add shipping charged to the buyer and gift wrap or other order charges when relevant.
  3. Enter your real business costs. Include product or material cost, shipping/fulfilment and other order-level expenses such as packaging or allocated labour if you want them reflected in profit.
  4. Enter Etsy fee rates. Use the transaction rate, payment-processing percentage and fixed fee that apply to your seller account.
  5. Add optional fees only when applicable. Enter an Offsite Ads rate, regulatory operating rate or other fee only when the order is subject to it.
  6. Select Calculate Etsy Profit. Review estimated fees, costs, net profit and margin.

What Fees Does Etsy Charge Sellers?

Etsy sellers can encounter several different fee types. The exact combination depends on the shop, seller location, order, payment method and services used. The most important distinction is between marketplace fees and your own business costs.

Etsy Transaction Fee

As of the current 2026 Etsy seller guidance, Etsy lists a 6.5% transaction fee on the total order amount in the designated listing currency. Etsy states that this fee applies to the item price and also to shipping and gift wrapping when those are charged to the buyer.

Transaction fee = applicable order amount × transaction fee rate

The calculator leaves the transaction rate blank with an example placeholder instead of hard-coding it. This is deliberate: platform policies can change, and a calculator should remain usable when rates are updated. Check Etsy's current fee policy before making pricing decisions.

Etsy Payment Processing Fees

Etsy Payments processing fees are separate from the transaction fee. Etsy states that processing generally uses a percentage of the payment amount plus a fixed amount per order, and the exact percentage and fixed fee vary according to the location of the seller's bank account.

For example, Etsy's current country table lists different rates for the United States, United Kingdom, many euro-area countries, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and numerous other Etsy Payments locations. That makes a single universal processing rate inappropriate.

Why the processing fields are editable: Enter the percentage and fixed payment-processing amount shown for your Etsy Payments location. This avoids forcing a US, UK, EU or any other country-specific assumption on every seller.

Listing and Renewal Fees

Etsy's current seller guidance lists a standard $0.20 USD listing fee per listing. Listings generally expire after four months, and renewal or additional-quantity situations can create additional listing fees. Fixed fees may also be converted into the seller's payment-account currency.

Because the exact listing-fee impact on a particular order can depend on renewals and quantity, SonoCalculator lets you enter the fixed listing or renewal amount you want allocated to the order.

Etsy Offsite Ads Fees

Offsite Ads are not a fee on every Etsy order. Etsy's current guidance says qualifying orders attributed to Offsite Ads may carry a fee. The current published tiers are generally 15% for shops below the relevant $10,000 USD sales threshold and 12% after a shop reaches at least $10,000 USD in a consecutive 365-day period. Etsy also states that the Offsite Ads fee is capped at $100 USD per order.

Do not enter an Offsite Ads percentage for a normal order that is not attributed to Offsite Ads. If an order is attributed, enter the rate that applies to your shop. The calculator treats it as an optional fee rather than assuming every sale came from an ad.

Regulatory Operating Fees

Etsy charges a regulatory operating fee to sellers in certain countries. The percentage varies by seller location. Etsy's current help page lists affected locations and their rates, so this calculator provides an editable field instead of assuming that every seller owes the fee.

For example, Etsy currently lists regulatory operating fees for countries including Canada, France, Hungary, Italy, India, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. Because the list and rates can change, verify the current percentage for your location before using it for pricing.

Currency Conversion, VAT and Other Etsy Costs

Not every possible Etsy charge can be inferred from an order price alone. Etsy currently states that a currency-conversion fee may apply when a seller lists in a currency different from the payment-account currency. VAT or similar tax may also apply to certain seller fees, and deposit fees can apply in some Etsy Payments countries.

Etsy Ads, shipping labels, subscriptions and other optional services can also create costs. If you know an order-level amount that should be included in your profitability estimate, you can place it in Other Etsy / Order Fees. For recurring shop expenses, consider allocating a reasonable per-order share rather than ignoring them.

Etsy Profit Formula

The calculator separates revenue, platform fees and business costs:

Order revenue = item price + shipping charged + gift wrap / other buyer charges Estimated Etsy fees = transaction + processing + listing + Offsite Ads + regulatory + other entered fees Business costs = product/material + shipping/fulfilment + other business costs Net profit = revenue − Etsy fees − business costs Profit margin = net profit ÷ revenue × 100%

This is an order-profit planning model, not an Etsy Payment Account replica. Taxes, fee bases, refunds, multi-quantity renewals, currency conversion and location-specific rules can affect actual deductions.

Etsy Fee & Profit Examples

Example 1: Basic order without Offsite Ads

Suppose an item sells for $40 and the buyer pays $5 shipping. Your product cost is $12 and your shipping cost is $4. If you enter a 6.5% transaction rate, your applicable payment-processing rate and fixed fee, plus a listing fee, the calculator subtracts those charges from $45 order revenue and then subtracts your $16 of business costs.

The important point is that revenue is not profit. A $45 customer payment can produce a much smaller profit after marketplace fees and fulfilment expenses.

Example 2: Offsite Ads order

Imagine the same order is attributed to an Offsite Ad. Enter the Offsite Ads percentage that applies to your shop. The additional advertising fee can materially reduce the margin, which is why sellers should test pricing under both normal-sale and Offsite-Ads scenarios.

Example 3: Seller with a regulatory operating fee

If your seller location is subject to a regulatory operating fee, enter the current percentage from Etsy. A small additional percentage may appear minor, but it can matter when margins are already tight or when multiplied across many orders.

Normal sale

Useful for checking everyday margin after transaction, payment-processing and listing fees.

Ad-attributed sale

Add the applicable Offsite Ads percentage to see how acquisition cost changes profit.

International setup

Enter your own processing and regulatory rates instead of relying on another country's fee assumptions.

Etsy Profit vs Profit Margin

Net profit is the amount of money left after the fees and business costs included in the calculation. Profit margin expresses that profit as a percentage of order revenue.

Profit margin = net profit ÷ order revenue × 100

If an order produces $10 profit from $50 revenue, the profit margin is 20%. Margin is useful when comparing products with different selling prices because it describes profitability relative to revenue.

Profit Margin vs Markup

Margin and markup are not the same. Margin compares profit with selling revenue, while markup compares profit with cost. A product can have a 50% markup without having a 50% profit margin.

For Etsy pricing, margin is often useful because marketplace fees are closely connected to the selling price and order amount. However, sellers may use both margin and markup when building a pricing strategy.

How to Price an Etsy Product for Profit

A sustainable price should account for more than materials. Depending on your business, relevant costs can include materials or wholesale cost, packaging, labour, shipping subsidies, marketplace fees, payment processing, advertising, damaged or replaced orders, software, equipment and overhead.

Start by identifying the costs that change with each sale. Then estimate the Etsy fees associated with the selling price. Finally, decide what profit or margin is needed to make the product worthwhile.

Pricing principle: Do not choose a selling price only by copying competitors. Two shops can sell similar products but have very different material costs, labour time, shipping expenses, advertising exposure and seller-location fees.

Should Shipping Charged to the Buyer Count as Revenue?

For order-level profit analysis, money collected from the buyer for shipping is part of the order inflow, while your actual shipping or fulfilment expense is a cost. Etsy's transaction-fee guidance also states that the transaction fee applies to shipping charged to the customer.

This is why the calculator separates Shipping Charged to Buyer from Your Shipping / Fulfilment Cost. They are not necessarily the same number.

What About Sales Tax, VAT or GST Collected From the Buyer?

Tax treatment is location- and transaction-specific. Marketplace-collected tax may not be seller revenue, while Etsy's payment-processing fee base can include applicable sales tax in some circumstances. VAT may also apply to seller fees in required locations.

Because these rules are not universal, this general calculator does not pretend that one tax treatment applies everywhere. For exact reconciliation, compare your estimate with the Etsy Payment Account and applicable local tax guidance.

Digital Products vs Physical Products

The same marketplace-fee logic can apply to both, but business costs differ. A physical product may have materials, packaging and shipping expenses. A digital product may have little per-order fulfilment cost but still have design time, software subscriptions, advertising and other overhead.

Enter only costs that make sense for your product. Blank optional cost fields are treated as zero.

Handmade Products and Labour Cost

For handmade items, ignoring labour can make a product look more profitable than it really is. If you want labour included in order-level profit, estimate the labour cost attributable to the item and enter it under Other Order Cost.

This calculator does not force an hourly wage assumption because labour valuation varies by seller, product and business model.

Why Actual Etsy Payout Can Differ From Calculated Profit

An Etsy payout is not the same as accounting profit. Your Payment Account can contain charges or credits from multiple orders, refunds, ads, shipping labels, taxes, reserves, currency conversion, deposits and other account activity. Meanwhile, some of your real business expenses are paid outside Etsy and therefore never appear as an Etsy deduction.

Use this calculator to estimate the economics of an order, not to predict the exact amount of a bank deposit.

Common Etsy Profit Calculation Mistakes

Using only the transaction fee

The transaction fee is not necessarily the only platform deduction. Payment processing is separate, and optional/location-specific charges may also apply.

Assuming every country has the same payment-processing rate

Etsy Payments rates vary by bank-account location. Use the rate that applies to your seller account.

Applying Offsite Ads to every order

The fee applies to qualifying attributed orders, not automatically to every Etsy sale.

Forgetting shipping costs

Shipping charged to a buyer and the shipping expense paid by the seller are different values. Include both where relevant.

Ignoring materials, packaging or labour

Marketplace fees alone do not determine profit. A realistic profit estimate should include the business costs required to fulfil the order.

Confusing payout with profit

The amount Etsy sends to your bank is not automatically your profit because product and operating costs may be paid elsewhere.

Using outdated Etsy fee rates

Platform fees can change. Verify Etsy's current official seller-fee guidance before relying on a rate for pricing or business decisions.

How Accurate Is This Etsy Fee Calculator?

The arithmetic is exact for the values you enter, but the real-world estimate depends on entering the correct fee rates and costs for your seller account and order. Etsy may calculate particular fees on specific bases, and taxes, currency conversion, refunds, multi-quantity listings and optional services can alter the actual Payment Account result.

For that reason, SonoCalculator emphasizes transparent editable inputs rather than hiding assumptions. Use it for planning and product-level profitability analysis, then compare actual transactions with Etsy's Payment Account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Enter the sale revenue and applicable Etsy fees, and leave physical-product costs blank when they do not apply. Add any relevant digital-product or allocated business costs if desired.

Why is my Etsy payout different from the calculator?

Your Payment Account can include taxes, refunds, ads, shipping labels, reserves, currency conversion and activity from multiple orders. A bank payout is also different from business profit.

Is this calculator affiliated with Etsy?

No. SonoCalculator is an independent calculator. Etsy is a trademark of its respective owner. Always verify current fees using Etsy's official seller guidance.

Fee-rate note: Content was reviewed against Etsy's official seller-fee guidance in September 2026. Etsy currently publishes a $0.20 USD standard listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, country-dependent Etsy Payments processing rates, optional Offsite Ads tiers and location-dependent regulatory operating fees. Rates and policies can change, so the calculator keeps variable rates editable.
